At Dianella Heights Primary School, we are committed to ensuring your child receives the best possible education. Our school is a place they can achieve their best throughout their journey from Kindergarten to Year 6. We believe this happens by developing strong and meaningful partnerships with you, your child and the wider community, and by continually adapting to the changing needs of society - locally, nationally and globally.
All students are encouraged to aim for excellence and to reach their potential through programs that extend and enrich their learning. Our staff are dedicated professionals who focus on developing your child’s literacy and numeracy skills as well as supporting their social and emotional development through researched and targeted practices. Our approach to Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) has been carefully researched and implementation is guided by the Teaching and Learning Handbook. Inquiry-based learning practices are being established across many learning areas. Our specialist teachers cater for Science, Italian (LOTE), Health and Physical Education and Music (The Arts). We also offer Visual Art, Humanities and Technologies. Regular and research-based assessment of your child’s learning journey helps us to inform future teaching practices and learning at our school.
The school is committed to current, ongoing professional learning for all our staff and the development of whole school programs/processes focused on every aspect of developing our students.
Our leadership program for senior students provides many opportunities for them to develop and display leadership qualities and attributes. These include opportunities to become a Student Councillor, Faction Captain, ICT Technicians, Environmental and Library Officers. School leaders are encouraged to be proactive, by individually seeking out leadership opportunities and providing recommendations for new school initiatives at regular meetings.
We are fortunate to have strong community support from the School Board who oversees the governance of the school. An active P&C Association provides ongoing support, community engagement initiatives and improvements to amenities and value adding to our educational program.
Dianella Heights Primary School is surrounded by well-maintained gardens and grassed areas. Our modern library and state of the art purpose-built music, science and art rooms are well resourced. Interactive LCD touch panels and computers in every classroom support student learning and teaching. The school is also proud of our awesome playgrounds, two grassed ovals, tennis, netball and basketball courts. There is an extensive natural bush area with a walk trail through the centre.
We are proud of our school vision “Soaring to new heights in excellence through unity,” as this encompasses everything we do.
